About this Work of Art ~
"The
Ferry"
was created by Laszlo Tar in 1997. The scene is Port Jefferson,
Long Island. One of Long Island's many beautiful seaports, Port
Jefferson is a historic ship-building village. The Village was
the largest shipbuilding center in Long Island's Suffolk County
in the 1800’s
with four of every ten ships being built there. The ferry line has been in continuous operation since 1883 and is certainly one
of the wonderful attractions of Port Jefferson. Like a no-frills
cruise ship, it is a key part of the commerce and beauty of this
special spot. Laszlo Tar loved
painting throughout the northern shores of Long Island.
He
would
travel with his son from harbor
to harbor, finding unique scenes to paint. Mr. Tar
lived with his family in Huntington, Long Island in the 1990's
and on this day, he found captured this perfect view of "The Ferry".
