Description
Among my father's vast collection of paintings, this rendition of the Eiffel Tower holds a particularly special place in my heart.
The romantic, distant view across the River Seine instantly transports us to the streets of Paris. A solitary boat rests on the shore, while a bridge stretches further upriver. And hovering above it all, the iconic wrought-iron lattice of the Eiffel seems to pierce the stormy Parisian sky - a juxtaposition as breathtaking as the city itself.
It was in 1977 that Dad had the chance to experience the magic of Paris firsthand during a five-month artistic pilgrimage across Europe. After immersing himself in the beauty of England, Italy, and the Netherlands, the City of Light proved to be the culminating inspiration for his creative spirit.
I can vividly imagine Dad standing on those very banks of the Seine, after his long journey, easel in hand, losing himself in the architectural marvel that is the Eiffel Tower, but also in the scene's entirety. Each brushstroke seems to capture not just the visual spectacle, but the very essence of Paris - its history, its romance, its spirit, mixed with Dad's inner-essence.
On this day in 1977, Dad stood on the river Seine and reflected upon his love of Paris - and of life. ❤️
